Two people were killed when the car they were in collided with a tree along Beacon Road in Penn Township on Saturday evening, July 25, township police have confirmed.

The crash was first reported over Butler County Emergency Services dispatch shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday. According to Penn Township police officer Christopher Scalise, only one vehicle was involved in the crash and there were no occupants other than the two who were killed.

The crash is still under investigation by the Penn Township Police Department. The department declined to provide further details behind the circumstances that led to the crash. However, initial reports from eyewitnesses indicated the car was on fire at one point shortly after the impact.

Aside from the Penn Township Police Department, the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department, Middlesex Township Police Department and Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene.
