Woman dead after Sunday fire

BEAVER FALLS — Authorities say a woman was found dead after an early morning fire Sunday.

Police in Beaver County say the blaze was reported at a Beaver Falls home shortly after 3:30 a.m.

Fire officials said the woman was found on the floor of the one-story home.

The name of the woman was not immediately released. Officials said three dogs also died in the fire.

A state police fire marshal from the Butler barracks is investigating the cause of the blaze.

Mom charged with harming baby

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh woman has been jailed on charges she endangered her baby.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for 30-year-old Kari Vallance, who faces a preliminary hearing March 26 on child endangerment, aggravated assault and other charges.

Witnesses tell police the woman rammed the stroller into a revolving door at a mass-transit train station downtown, causing the baby to fall out about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. When witnesses tried to intervene, the woman ran away and the baby fell out of the stroller again and was almost hit by a passing vehicle in the street. The baby was treated at a hospital.

Frat says citation unwarranted

CALIFORNIA — The Beta Iota chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma at California (Pa.) University says the borough was wrong to cite the organization’s president for a party that authorities called “disorderly.”

The fraternity has suspended social events at its house pending a policy and safety review. But the fraternity said police incorrectly assumed those fighting outside the house March 1 were invited guests.

At least seven people ages 17 to 23 were arrested. None were students, but police and the university said they were at the party.
