A Jackson Township man accused of stalking a woman following a standoff had previously been accused of harassing the same woman by text message and at her place of employment.

Kenneth Arthur Hughes, 75, was charged Thursday, July 23, by Zelienople police with misdemeanor trespassing following a June 24 incident.

Police said they were contacted June 24 by a woman who claimed Hughes was harassing her at her workplace and with unsolicited text messages. It was the same woman who police said Hughes pointed a gun at during a July 19 standoff.

In that incident, Zelienople police charged Hughes on July 19 with two misdemeanor counts each of terroristic threats, simple assault and reckless endangerment; and one misdemeanor count each of stalking and weapon possession.

Police had told Hughes to stop contacting the woman June 24, but Hughes denied harassing the woman, police said. Hughes acknowledged he was to stop contacting the woman and stop going to her workplace while she was there.

July 14, five days before the standoff, Hughes was at the woman’s workplace attempting to interact with her, police said.

Hughes has preliminary hearings in both cases scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 19 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz. He is represented by attorney Benjamin Levine.
