The Chicora man who stole a car from Butler earlier this week was in possession of controlled substances when he was found in Fairview Township inside the stolen vehicle Thursday.

State police charged Alan Connor McDonald, 33, with felony receiving stolen property and one misdemeanor count each of DUI, driving while suspended, controlled substance possession, drug paraphernalia possession and unauthorized vehicle use Thursday, July 23 following an incident the day before.

Earlier, Butler police had charged McDonald with one felony count each of robbery and aggravated assault, and one misdemeanor count each of reckless endangerment and loitering and prowling at night related to the vehicle theft.

According to the latest charging documents, police were dispatched to Fir Road in Fairview Township for a welfare check. They arrived and found McDonald and another man inside a vehicle, which was reported stolen from Butler.

Police said McDonald showed signs of impairment and had seven full stamp bags of controlled substances, four empty stamp bags and related paraphernalia.

Police said McDonald also admitted to stealing the newspaper delivery person’s vehicle. He’s accused of dragging the vehicle’s owner along the pavement in the process.

McDonald is being held in Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail.

His preliminary hearing for the stolen vehicle and assault is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 3 before District Judge William Fullerton. His preliminary hearing for the subsequent incident is scheduled for 10:40 a.m. Aug. 11 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
