NEW CASTLE — Police said a gas station worker died in a shooting in New Castle.

Police said the employee, Hussein Alghooran, 40, of New Castle, was found lying in front of a Marathon gas station's convenience store around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. He had a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

New Castle police said the shooting might have been part of a robbery attempt.

No arrests were reported.

HARRISBURG — The head of the agency that runs Pennsylvania's 117 state parks said at least 35 of them would have to close under the budget plan that passed the state Senate.Department of Conservation and Natural Resources acting Secretary John Quigley said Thursday his agency would also have to close 1,000 miles of state forest roads. He said that would sharply reduce access for those who want to hunt, fish and hike.Sen. Joe Scarnati, R-25th, said Quigley hasn't explained how he reached the conclusion that at least 35 parks would have to close. Scarnati said until Quigley does so, the public should be skeptical.The Senate proposal would cut $19 million more from the agency's budget beyond the cuts that Gov. Ed Rendell proposed in February.
