Omer C. Hertweck

Omer C. Hertweck, 76, of Portersville passed away Friday at his home.

He was born May 1, 1934, to the late Samuel and Cecelia Wagner Hertweck.,

He was a member of St. Peter Parish in Slippery Rock.

He retired in 1995, after working 43 years at Pepsi Cola. He started as a driver, then a route salesman, before becoming a supervisor. After retirement, he worked many part-time jobs where he was well known for his friendly people skills. At the time of his passing, he worked at the Wine and Spirits Store on Route 8 south of Butler.

Omer joined the Portersville-Prospect Rotary Club in 1973, where he served as president in 1977-78 and 1991-92. At the time of his death, he was the club secretary and the Porthole Newsletter editor.

He was a Paul Harris Fellow, and also served on many committees in his Rotary District 7280. He was instrumental in developing a relationship with Lahens Sanon, a missionary minister in Haiti. Most recently, he helped organize the purchase of a bus and supplies that were shipped to Haiti for school children. He enjoyed traveling on missionary trips to the countries where his Rotary club supported projects.

He was a past president and former fire chief of the Allison Park Fire Department.

Omer was a Steelers fan, and season ticket holder since 1971. He belonged to the Keenagers Senior group of Portersville and to the American Legion Golf League in Butler. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, hunting, golfing, and collecting Pepsi memorabilia.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Averell Hertweck, who he married June 19, 1954; three daughters, Charmaine Smith and her husband, Bill, of Rochester, Mary Alice Boston of Portersville, and De De Reed and her husband, Denny, of Butler; three grandchildren, Shannon Homick and her husband, Mike, of Ellwood City, Heath Smith of Rochester and Shawna Reed of Butler; three great grandchildren, Melody, Shadon and Lillian; one brother, Paul Hertweck and his wife, Betty, of Millvale; a sister-in-law, Mary Wirth of New Jersey; and in-laws Mike Richard of Pittsburgh and Sandy Averell of Pittsburgh.

He was preceded in death by one son, Stanley John Hertweck; and two brothers, Vince and Stanley Hertweck.

<B>HERTWECK</B> — Friends of Omer C. Hertweck, who died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, will be received on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the <B>Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home</B>, 387 Main St., Prospect. A funeral Mass will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter Parish, 342 Normal Ave., Slippery Rock.
