Trial scheduled in 2024 Butler homicide
A November trial has been scheduled for a Butler man charged with homicide in the shooting death of another man two years ago outside of an American Avenue home in Butler.
Jury selection is scheduled for Nov. 13 in Butler County Common Pleas Court for the homicide case against Sean Ernest Williams, 38, who Butler police charged in the Nov. 4, 2024, shooting death of Christopher Waggett, 47, of Butler. The trial is expected to begin Nov. 16.
According to an affidavit, Williams and Waggett were among a group of people inside a home on American Avenue when the two men got into an argument.
Waggett left, but returned, and he and Williams got into another argument. Waggett walked away, but a witness told police Williams took a gun from a woman’s purse and walked in the direction of Waggett, according to the affidavit.
Waggett said something to Williams and knocked a bottle out of Williams’ hand. Williams then shot Waggett, according to the affidavit.
Assistant public defender Michael McFarland is representing Williams, who is being held in the Butler County Prison without bail. The trial will be heard by Judge Joseph Kubit.
