A Butler man accused of grabbing two children and threatening a parent with a knife had a felony and three misdemeanor charges withdrawn but still pleaded guilty to two summary offenses at a preliminary hearing.

Although Clinton J. Beham, 48, had the felony and misdemeanors withdrawn, he pleaded guilty to one summary count each of harassment and disorderly conduct before District Judge William Fullerton at a Monday, July 20, preliminary hearing.

He was sentenced to pay $600 in fines plus court costs. The parent and two children did not attend the hearing.

Beham was charged April 18 with felony aggravated assault, two misdemeanor counts of simple assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest following an April 17 incident.

Police said they were dispatched to a Butler home for reports of a man attempting to take the caller’s child. Parents at the scene told police their children were playing outside when Beham exited the home and approached the children.

Police said Beham then grabbed a child younger than 12 years old by the arm and dragged him off the property. He then yelled in the face of another child before grabbing him by the shoulders and shoving him.

After the children left the vicinity, police said Beham approached the parent of the first child with a folding knife.

Police said Beham also firmly grabbed an officer’s wrist and pulled away while being arrested.
