Well Strung marks release of debut CD

Members of the bluegrass band Well Strung are, from left, Dennis Morton, Don Fiedler, Jeff Scheller, Tom St. John and Kevin Ondriezek. The group is celebrating the release of its debut CD.

Well Strung, a five-piece bluegrass band with members from the Butler County area, will be celebrating the release of its self-titled debut CD with a party at 9 p.m. Friday at Sunny Jim's Tavern, 255 Camp Horne Road in Pittsburgh and then again at 7 p.m. Monday at North Country Brewing, 141 S. Main St in Slippery Rock.

The group is made up of Don Fiedler on guitar, Dennis Morton on fiddle, Kevin Ondriezek on mandolin, Jeff Scheller on bass and Tom St. John on banjo.

Fourteen original songs on the CD touch on several different musical styles including bluegrass, country, Texas swing, folk and rock, all done with bluegrass instrumentation.

The majority of the songs are upbeat and deal with typical bluegrass topics such as love, death and life but with a twist.

The band shows its sense of humor in tunes like "Ain't Never Gonna Be Your Beau," "Holy Murder," "Liquored Up" and "I Came Here to Fish" but also can show sensitivity in tunes such as "Westmoreland County" and "Sweet Virginia."

The new CD will be available at the group's shows and online at www.cdbaby.com, www.itunes.com, www.napster.com and www.digstation.com. For information, contact www.wellstrungbluegrass.com.
