A Lyndora man on the Megan’s Law registry offered a 10-year-old boy $50 to perform sexual acts on him, according to Butler Township police.

Bernard Richard Godfrey, 55, was charged Friday, July 17, with one felony count each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with minors, indecent assault and corruption of minors following an incident Thursday.

Police responded to Penn Avenue on Thursday for reports of a man continually falling down. When police arrived, they found Godfrey laying on the sidewalk with a plastic bag of beer while showing extreme signs of intoxication.

After finding Godfrey, police said a 10-year-old boy came running down a nearby hill and told police “he tried to touch me,” referring to Godfrey.

The boy told police when he was alone with Godfrey on the back porch of a nearby residence, Godfrey told the boy he’d give him $50 to perform sexual acts on him.

The boy then told his grandfather, who corroborated the boy’s story to police, they said.

Godfrey was convicted of indecent assault in 2005 and of indecent assault of a minor in 2009, according to the Megan’s Law registry.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 30 before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell. He’s being held in Butler County Prison on $350,000 bail. If he posts bail, he would be on electronic monitoring and a curfew.
