Mary Lou Ippolito, 78, of Butler died Tuesday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born March 13, 1931, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Gladys McGrody Winters.

She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild of St. Michael's.

As a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Butler Memorial Hospital, she volunteered for 7,000 hours. In 1988, she was named Auxilian of the Year.

She also was a former president of the Sunnyview Women's Auxiliary.

She formerly had worked in the Hostess Shop at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She enjoyed bowling, bingo, and crossword puzzles, and she also enjoyed being a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, James D. Ippolito, to whom she was married for 56 years; two sons, James W. Ippolito and his wife, Barbara, of Charleston, Ill., and Michael R. Ippolito of Butler; a daughter, Cathy Shaffer and her husband, Brad, of Erie; a brother, Donald Winters and his wife, Marlene, of Butler; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

<B>IPPOLITO</B> — Friends of Mary Lou Ippolito, who died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father James Dolan, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery.The Bereavement Group of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church will meet at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Thursday to conduct a Scriptural Wake Service.The family requests memorial donations to the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Information is available at www.martinfh.net.
