Mercer keys GCC triumph
Brian Mercer ran for 115 yards while the Grove City College defense forced four second-half turnovers in a 19-10 victory over Carnegie Mellon University Saturday at Thorn Field.
Andrew DiDonato completed 13 of 24 passes for 137 yards while Zach Summy caught five passes for 91 yards.
Randy Santina led the defensive attack for the Wolverines (1-0) with 14 tackles and Adam Eichler added 11 tackles.
Butler High graduate Chris Haley kicked field goals of 22 and 30 yards to open and close the scoring, respectively, for Grove City.
The win marked Grove City’s first victory in its home opener since 2004 and first win over CMU since 2000.
The Wolverines will open Presidents’ Athletic Conference play at 7 p.m. Saturday against Bethany.
