Supervisors table motion on outdoor entertainment ruling
A small group of Center Township residents took to the monthly supervisors meeting Wednesday in the hope of seeing an ordinance passed regarding concerts at the Starlight Drive-In.
While there was a motion to advertise an outdoor entertainment ordinance on the meeting agenda, the three supervisors present voted to table it until the next meeting to make more adjustments.
“In order for us to be able to act as a board with only three present, I will vote along with the other two members to table,” said supervisor chairman Ron Flatt.
About seven people concerned with the drive-in's concerts attended the meeting for discussion, but their hopes were not fulfilled Wednesday.
“We don't want to shut them down; we just want them to quiet down,” said resident Christina Caruso.
According to resident Gina Klopfer, residents first brought complaints to the supervisors last year when the drive-in began hosting concerts. Having lived in the township for years, she said before then she never had a problem with movies being too loud. Concerts held at the theater changed things.
“I don't think the theater has embraced any sound-reduction technology,” she said.
The supervisors said they met with the owners of the drive-in to address the ordinance.
“We talked with them for a couple hours on some options they have,” said supervisor Phil Wulff. “It sounds like they are definitely at this point trying to control the sound, trying to keep it down. At this point, that's kind of where we're at right now.”
Also at the meeting, supervisors voted to hire Shields Asphalt Paving for about $360,000 to pave North Duffy Road, part of Henricks Road and part of Lions Road.
