Closkey

Anthony F. Closkey, 72, of Butler died early Thursday morning at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born in Phoenixville, Pa., on July 23, 1938, a son of the late Anthony S. and Marion Roman Closkey.

Tony was a graduate of the Pennsylvania Military College in Chester. An athlete, he played defensive end on his high school and college teams, and he also had been a member of their golf teams.

He was the retired president of the Commonwealth Utility Equipment Co., Inc. in Butler, which he founded in 1971.

He was an active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Center Township, where he served as an Eucharistic minister.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid golfer and gin player. He was a member of Butler Country Club and the Coachman Club.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Gallagher Closkey; two sons, Jude Closkey and Anthony J. Closkey, both of Butler; three daughters, Cynthia Closkey of Butler, Laura Closkey (Fabrice Beretta) of San Francisco, Calif., and Kathleen Wayne (Michael) of Butler; two grandchildren, Rachel Wayne and Matthew Beretta-Closkey; two brothers, Robert (Eileen) Closkey of New Jersey and Gregory (Ann) Closkey of Bryn Mawr; and one sister, Carol Harrington of California.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Closkey.

<B>CLOSKEY</B> — Friends of Anthony F. Closkey, who died Thursday, July 14, 2011, will be received at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St. Ext., Center Township. His pastor, the Rev. James Salberg, will officiate.Following cremation, private inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
