Rebecca Muriel Gallagher Huntsman, 60, of Wilmington, N.C., died Wednesday surrounded by her family at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Becky was born Feb. 21, 1951, in Butler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Martha Gallagher.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Dr. John R. Huntsman; daughter, Sarah Huntsman and granddaughter, Charlotte; daughter, Lori Huntsman Walker and her husband, Jay; son, John R. Huntsman Jr. “Robbie”; sister, Martha Hollo, her husband, Dennis, and their family; and her faithful companion Brak.

Becky was a passionate educator, having taught English at the college, high school and middle school levels. She was a national board certified teacher and was a faculty member at Williston Middle School since 1991. She also enjoyed her time working at Measurement Inc., where she served as a team leader.

A lifelong musician, Becky was an active participant in the music ministry at the Wrightsville United Methodist Church.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the numerous medical professionals, especially those of the STICU at NHRMC, who provided care, assistance and compassion above and beyond expectations.
