Elizabeth M. O'Brien
Elizabeth M. O'Brien, 82, of Butler passed away Monday at the Good Samaritan Hospice, Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, after a short illness.
Born Sept. 20, 1928, in Latrobe, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Mankey) Lentz.
She graduated from Latrobe High School in June 1946, which she attended with Arnold Palmer and Fred Rogers. She also graduated from Greensburg Beauty School in 1948.
She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. She was a charter member of the Ladies Bridge Club, meeting bimonthly for 55 years and was a lifelong member and supporter of the Butler Public Library.
Elsie loved playing cards, and she loved to read, often reading six books a week. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, liked reading recipe books and cooking, enjoyed traveling, often taking trips to visit her children, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She was especially proud of being able to take her entire family to Sandbridge, Va., in September 2008 for a family reunion.
Surviving are her children, Sharon Helfrich and her husband, Ronald, of Cherry Hill, N.J., Cynthia Delcamp and her husband, John, of Winter Haven, Fla., Colleen Mortimer and her husband, Timothy, of Port Matilda, Centre County, Diane Cavalero and her husband, Randal, of Butler with whom she had made her home for the past 1½ years, Joseph O'Brien of Jamison, Pa., Patrick O'Brien and his wife, Laura, of Fenelton, Christopher O'Brien and his wife, Janet, of Glendale, Ariz., Thomas O'Brien of Phoenix, Ariz., Kevin O'Brien of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Eric O'Brien of Wilmington, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Alice Brahosky of State College and Helen Damico of Silver Springs, Md.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. William “Bill” O'Brien, who she married Aug. 31, 1949, in the Holy Family Church, Latrobe. He died Dec. 17, 2005. She also was preceded in death by a brother, George Lentz, and an infant daughter, Mary Lynn O'Brien.
<B>O'BRIEN</B> — Friends of Elizabeth M. O'Brien, who died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, will be received at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 3 until 6 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will take place at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Lutz officiating.
