Glance at the US Open
A quick look at the final round of the U.S. Open at the 6,996-yard, par-70 Merion Golf Club:
Winner: Justin Rose of England, who finished with an even-par 70 to win by two shots.
Just behind: Jason Day and Phil Mickelson, who finished second for the sixth time in the Open.
Where’s Tiger?: Woods shot a 4-over 74, finishing at 13-over 293, his worst 72-hole score as a pro in the U.S. Open and it tied his high score in any major.
Notable: Rose became the first Englishman in 43 years to win the Open. The last was Tony Jacklin at Hazeltine in 1970.
Next up: Next year’s U.S. Open will be June 12-15 at Pinehurst in North Carolina.
Quotable: “I’ve holed a putt to win a major championship hundred of thousands of times on the putting green at home.” — Rose after winning.
