Another shot for Hotel Saxonburg to find an owner

There’s another chance for the Hotel Saxonburg to find new life after the site was once again listed for sale last week.

While the building failed to attract a buyer at sheriff’s sale in May, it’s now listed on real estate sites at a new, lower price with none of the previous tax liability attached.

There already seems to be some interest.

According to Berkshire Hathaway Realtor Jack Hutterer, he’s already shown the property to at least one prospective client.

That interest is good news for the community.

Closed since March 2025, the historic business has a 194-year history and has taken on status as a minor landmark. Any possibility the restaurant, and possibly even the hotel, could reopen under new management is a positive for the area.

There’s more good news, according to Hutterer, despite concerns over deteriorating conditions as the building sat empty, the interior is in relatively good shape, with some mold mitigation needed and some moisture in the basement. That’s not bad for nearly two-century-old building that’s sat empty for over a year.

We can hope that with the significantly lower price, clear tax record and relatively good state of the building, the site will be hosting the public in the hands of new management relatively soon.
