William S. Rome Sr., 96, of Cabot, formerly of Herman, passed away Friday, June 26, 2026, in Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 15, 1929, in Braddock, Pa., he was a son of the late Louis P. Rome and Mary Mudic Rome.

Bill worked as a foreman for Butler County Mushroom Farm.

He was a member of Sts. Francis and Clare Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, and he belonged to the RC Men’s Club.

He enjoyed golfing, hunting, gardening and fishing.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Betsy Grassell and her husband, John, of Branford, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Pattishall, Amy Carbungco and her husband, Eddie, and Stephen Rome and his wife, Kerry; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty McGrady Rome, who passed away June 22, 1996; his son, William S. Rome Jr.; one grandson, Michael Grassell; and three brothers, Frank Rome, John Rome and Louis Rome.

ROME — Friends of William S. Rome Sr., who died Friday, June 26, 2026, will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, in MARTIN FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Sts. Francis and Clare Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 821 Herman Road, Butler, with the Rev. James Kurtz, OFM, Cap., officiating.

Burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, Coylesville.
