Fourth of July celebrations scheduled for Butler County
Several events across Butler County will commemorate America’s semiquincentennial throughout the July 4 weekend. This is a listing of those events.
Cranberry Township’s Town Square Market will host Star-Spangled Summerfest from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 26.
The themed market will feature patriotic decorations. The event will begin with the singing of the national anthem, and the first 300 children in attendance will receive a free American flag. The Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company will also be on hand with the Company’s 1928 fire engine.
Attendees can take a picture with CT, the Cranberry Township Waterpark’s mascot. Ice cream from Cranberry Dairy Queen will also be available.
Adams Township will celebrate America’s 250th with an event at Adams Township Community Park. The event starts at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 1. The park covers nine acres and includes food, games, crafts and activities for all ages. Live music from Buck Wild begins at 5:30 p.m., while The Hit List performs at 7:30 p.m. The celebration concludes with fireworks at 9 p.m.
Butler Area Community Day will begin at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at Alameda Park in Butler Township. The event, a collaboration between Butler Township and Butler County Parks and Recreation, will include food vendors, live music and many activities for children. The event will end with a fireworks show.
The Butler County Symphony Orchestra will perform a special Concert in the Park for America’s 250th on Thursday, July 2, at Cranberry Community Park. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Concessions are provided by the Cranberry Noon Rotary Club.
Zelienople’s fifth annual Bed Derby begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Zelienople Community Park. The event will honor America’s 250th. All participants are asked to decorate their beds with a patriotic theme. Audience members can vote on the best decorated bed and watch to see who gets the fastest time.
Evans City will hold a fireworks show Friday, July 3. The show, which is sponsored by the Evans City Lions Club, begins at dusk.
Harrisville will host Community Days beginning Friday, July 3, at noon at Harrisville Community Park. The celebrations begin with a car show at noon. Live bands start playing at 4:30 p.m. The night concludes with a fireworks show.
Mars’ two-day America250 celebration begins Friday, July 3. That day, downtown visitors can ride on the Mars Shortline train at the Mars Area History and Landmarks Society on Brickyard Road.
At Marburger Field, Friday’s activities begin at 5 p.m. with tributes to Chester Marburger, a former postmaster and American Legion baseball leader, and Carl Woods, a Mars High School football player and Tuskegee Airman. The field will also host a Punt, Pass and Kick competition, as well as a softball exhibition game.
At 8 p.m., the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center will hold a dance presentation to honor the Lenape and Seneca tribes that first settled the Mars area.
Saxonburg will host a celebration of America’s 250th on July 3. The Saxonburg Museum will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. Downtown, visitors can enjoy the reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Saxonburg Public Library and the performance of “taps” in the library courtyard.
The parade, which begins at 5 p.m., features a tribute to Saxonburg Police Chief Gregory Adams, who died in the line of duty in 1980. The celebrations conclude with a fireworks display at the Saxonburg Carnival Grounds.
Zelienople will host the traveling Tomb of the Unknown Soldier replica for three days, beginning July 3. The tomb will be on display at Four Corners Park. An short ceremony to dedicate the tomb will take place at 6 p.m. July 3.
The Big Butler Fair will host the inaugural Rodfathers 4th of July cruise from noon to 6 p.m. Other events at the fair on July 4 include a celebrity milking contest at 1 p.m., military honors at 3 p.m. and a fireworks display at dusk.
Harrisville’s Community Days continue July 4. The Independence Day parade begins at 11 a.m. The celebration at Harrisville Community Park runs from noon until 4 p.m.
Mars’ America250 celebration continues Saturday with a petting zoo from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Lutheran SeniorLife St. John’s Community. There will be a ceremony to dedicate a new American flagpole at the USS Mars’ bell at 11 a.m.
The traditional Fourth of July parade begins at 5:30 p.m. and runs from Marburger Field to downtown Mars. After the parade, Marburger Field will host a community cookout at 6:30 p.m., followed by fireworks at dusk.
Slippery Rock will commemorate America’s 250th birthday with a celebration on South Main Street that begins at 3 p.m. July 4. The celebrations include street vendors, live entertainment and fireworks. Admission and parking are free.
Zelienople’s Fourth of July and Community Day celebrations begin at 8 a.m. with the Firecracker 5K at Zelienople Community Park, followed by the annual Independence Day parade on Main Street at 11 a.m.
The celebrations also include free swimming at the Zelienople Community Pool from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and performances from the Pittsburgh Philharmonic and Breakwaze at Zelienople Community Park. The event concludes with fireworks at dusk.
Evans City will host the “A Voice for Liberty” 250th anniversary event at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 5, at the Evans City Cemetery. The event features a sing-along of patriotic songs and patriotic trivia. The event will be held inside the cemetery’s chapel in case of rain.
