The Butler County commissioners Wednesday approved a contract for a bridge replacement project in Zelienople.

The commissioners awarded a $59,950 contract to Laminated Concepts of Big Flats, N.Y., to install a new deck on the Iron City Bridge on Market Street.

The company submitted the only bid.

The county will rebid for concrete blocks needed for the bridge replacement because no companies submitted bids to supply the blocks.

The project is funded by state natural gas drilling impact fee revenue that the county gets.

Court grantTom Holman, deputy court administrator, told the commissioners that the Walmart Foundation awarded a $1,000 grant for the county’s specialty courts.Holman said the money would be used for such items as bus tokens and gas cards for defendants diverted to veterans or drug court so they have transportation for essential activities, including job interviews and counseling.
