SLIPPERY ROCK — For the first time in 23 years, the Slippery Rock University field hockey team will play a playoff game.

The Rock (6-12, 5-5) earned the No. 3 seed out of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-West Division and will play at Indiana (Pa.) University today at 7 p.m.

SRU earned the berth with a 2-1 upset of IUP on Saturday on an overtime goal by Gabrielle Malishchak.

On the strength of that goal, Malishchak, a junior midfielder, was named PSAC-West Field Hockey Athlete of the Week.

In two games last week, Malishchak had 10 shots, including the dramatic game-winner against IUP.

Malishchak has started 15 games and is second on the team with seven points. The two goals she has scored this season have both been game-winners.
