Devin Taylor scored 25 points for Slippery Rock University, but the men's basketball squad dropped a 64-47 exhibition game at Penn State University Saturday.

Taylor also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

SRU tips off its season at 7 p.m. Friday against visiting Westminster College.

At the NCAA Atlantic Region Cross-Country Championships Saturday, both of the host Slippery Rock University teams placed fifth overall.The men's team — led by Travis Arrigoni's 10th-place finish at 32:52 — finished with 131 points. Edinboro won the title with 71 points.In the women's race, Stephanie Case was 12th overall (22:54) and Kara Styles 21st (23:20) to pace The Rock with 159 points. Shippensburg cruised to the title with 50 points.

Five second-half touchdowns by Bethany College broke open a scoreless contest and sent the Bison to a 33-14 victory over Grove City College Saturday.The Wolverines (2-7, 2-5 PAC) totaled just 259 yards. Quarterback Brian Pell ran for one touchdown and passed to Anthony Reda for the other.From staff reports
