Rock downs Seton Hill
SLIPPERY ROCK — Senior forward Devin Taylor scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Saturday to lead the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team to a 77-72 triumph over Seton Hill at Morrow Field House.
The double-double was Taylor’s second of the season.
Junior guard John Bayardelle added 14 points and seven boards, while junior guard Aubin Reeves added 13 points and four assists for The Rock (3-1).
Oliver Lewinson paced Seton Hill (1-3) with 18 points and seven rebounds.
SRU sank 15 of 18 free throws to secure the win.
The score was tied eight times in the contest, the last at 72-72 with 1:40 remaining. SRU sank five of six free throws down the stretch to earn the victory.
Taylor nailed one of two free throws to snap the final deadlock with 41 seconds left. Jon Valeriano and Taylor then sank two more free throws each in the final 30 seconds.
The Rock does not return to action until this weekend, hosting East Stroudsburg and Kutztown in women’s and men’s doubleheader games Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Saturday’s win marked the 60th recorded by fourth-year coach Kevin Reynolds at The Rock. The most wins by a Rock basketball coach in his first four seasons at the helm had been 52, set by Hank Baierl from 1958-62.
