Mailing addresses won’t change after Mars/Adams merger, says post office
Both Adams Township and Mars Borough reassured residents that there will be no change to their mailing addresses in the event that the two boroughs enter into their proposed municipal merger.
Under the terms of the proposed merger, Adams Township and Mars would combine into a new township called Mars Township, assuming that voters in both municipalities approve the ballot question in November. In the process, no one’s mailing address would change.
According to a statement from U.S. Postal Service representative Jacob Herr, residents of the combined township would still be able to use their previous mailing addresses for mail and package delivery.
“All mailing addresses will remain the same,” Herr wrote in a letter which was posted to Adams Township’s official Facebook page. “Residents should continue using their current street address, municipality, city, state, and ZIP code exactly as they are currently used for mail and package delivery.
“There is no need to update mailing information solely because of this municipal merger and renaming.”
At recent public hearings regarding the proposed merger, officials from Adams Township and Mars have received a large number of questions regarding how the merger would affect their postal service.
A copy of the letter is posted to Adams Township’s dedicated website regarding the proposed merger.
Residents of both municipalities will go to the polls to decide whether the merger will go forward at the general election held Nov. 3.
