Police: Texas man attempts to steal firearm from Summit Township store
A Texas man allegedly reached around a shop counter in Summit Township and attempted to steal a gun while the clerk was distracted, state police said.
Ricardo Abraham Vazquez Corona, 23, of San Antonio, Texas, entered the Freeport Road store on May 27 while the clerk behind the county was on the phone. Police said Vazquez Corona slowly bent down, reached around the counter and grabbed a Taurus 9mm G3C handgun before concealing it in his waistband.
The employee noticed the gun was missing after getting off the phone. He confronted Vazquez Corona and he immediately returned the firearm, police said.
Vazquez Corona then offered the employee extra money to sell him the firearm without the required paperwork, but the employee declined. Police said Vazquez Corona then asked where he could sell miscellaneous items he had before leaving the store.
Vazquez Corona was charged Thursday, June 11, with felony retail theft. His preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
