Township takes out nearly $900,000 in loans to fund project

BUFFALO TWP -- After over a half year of working out of two parking lot trailers, the township’s municipal employees and police department are expected to return to work at the newly renovated municipal building on Bear Creek Road in mid-July.

Township manager Rich Hill said the renovation project was initially scheduled to be finished around the end of June, but the completion has been pushed back by about two weeks due to compounding weather delays.

“We’re probably looking at another month (until completion),” Hill said.

To facilitate the building renovation, township employees and the police department are working out of a pair of trailers on the municipal building’s parking lot, while township meetings are held at the office of the Municipal Authority of Buffalo -- a separate organization that oversees the township’s water and sewage.

To finance completion of the renovation, the township board of supervisors authorized the borrowing of a combined $881,266 through two loans from First National Bank, during its meeting on Wednesday, June 10.

“We have about $1.3 million in COVID funds from the federal government and the county, and we're using this as additional funds to complete the project,” Hill said. “our project is roughly $1.8 to $1.9 (million).”

According to Hill, the loans will have no impact on the township’s budget for 2026, as officials already accounted for the loans when preparing the budget for the year.
