Westinghouse announces its new president, CEO

Move effective immediately

CRANBERRY TWP — Danny Roderick is the new president and chief executive officer, effective immediately, of Westinghouse Electric.

The company made the announcement late Wednesday.

He succeeds Shigenori Shiga, who had served as interim president and CEO since April. Shiga will retain his role as chairman of the Westinghouse board of directors.

Roderick most recently was senior vice president, nuclear plant projects, for GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy, a Westinghouse news release stated.

Prior to that, he served in a variety of positions with Progress Energy Florida and Progress Energy Carolinas. Before joining Progress, he spent 13 years in plant operations and engineering with Entergy Nuclear.

In the release, Roderick said, “We have a solid foundation on which to build, and I am optimistic about the future. Westinghouse is clearly the recognized industry pioneer and technology leader, and I pledge that we will continue to make the investments in customer service and technology and product development that will enable us to maintain our global leadership position.”

Westinghouse also announced that Ric Pérez, president and chief operating officer, would continue in that position.

Roderick’s hiring continues a revolving change of leadership at Westinghouse this year.

In January, Westinghouse announced that Aris Candris, president and CEO, would retire March 31.

Westinghouse also said at that time it was creating the Westinghouse Executive Office with the appointment of Jim Ferland as co-president and chief executive officer and Pérez as co-president and chief operating officer.

Ferland, 45, had been president of the Americas Region for Westinghouse.

But then just weeks later Ferland said he was leaving Westinghouse to lead Babcock & Wilcox in Charlotte, N.C.

That is when Shiga became president on an interim basis.

Westinghouse, a group company of Toshiba, is a leading supplier of nuclear plant products and technologies to utilities throughout the world.
