Adams Township to take action against park e-bike trespassing

ADAMS TWP — The township wants to prevent further incidents of e-bicycles and e-scooters illegally trespassing on Adams Township Community Park property.

Over the past month, an incident occurred where e-bike users illegally entered the park and caused damage to the park’s war memorial and a pavilion. No motorized vehicles of any kind — including e-bikes or e-scooters — are allowed on the park trails by township ordinance.

“There were some tire marks left on the war memorial and one of our pavilions as well,” said Brian Perry, the township’s parks and recreation director. “They were doing burnouts or burning rubber on the bricks.”

The incident occurred days before a Memorial Day service that was scheduled to be held at the park’s war memorial Sunday, May 17.

“The group at the war memorial … three days before the memorial service, they had just cleaned all the bricks,” said township Supervisor Russell Ford. “There was an e-bike situation over there and they had to come back and redo them all.”

During a board of supervisors meeting on Monday night, June 10, Ford warned the township was paying closer attention to the situation and there would be consequences for future offenders.

“We want to let it be known that we are going to prosecute anybody that does damage in the park when they should not be in the park with equipment like that,” Ford said.

“We’re keeping an eye on it,” Perry said. “We’re just keeping an eye on our cameras. We have a ton of cameras pointing in certain directions toward our facilities and we’re making sure that we have better coverage in the park.”

Adams Township has posted multiple messages to its official Facebook page to remind residents of the e-bike and e-scooter restrictions. Township manager Mike Tylka posted a video to social media Wednesday, May 13, to notify the public of the incident.
