I am writing in response to James Matson's and Dr. Adalja's letters advocating a new "enlightened" approach to the issues of sex and drugs, by making them safe and legal. I am not sure what kinds of sex and drugs they would have legal or illegal. I am sure on January 20th we will all know. I can't wait to see the application of Obama's superior intellect and experience beyond his years. I look forward to throwing grenades from the sidelines, like the liberals have done for the past eight years.

It is funny how liberals do not apply the legal and safe benchmark to guns. That is one area were they fully promote abstinence. But that is the subject for another letter.

Both authors offer comment that abstinence-only education is a failure and decry the tax dollar funded programs. If there is another method which 100% prevents pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, please someone tell me. If someone participates in the program and still gets pregnant or a disease, that is not the failure of the program, it is the failure of the individual to make a right decision.

It might surprise you that I agree with the disgust of taxpayer funded programs. I would eliminate funding for abstinence and contraception, all the social engineering programs and policies of this nature. One could argue that we have more programs now than 50 years ago, yet society is continues on the downward spiral. I could conclude all these programs are failures. Many of these programs do not augment what is being taught by parents. Further, some parents have abdicating their responsibility as parents to these programs.

There once was a time when children and young adults were given a solid moral foundation for decision making by there parents. And when they made bad decisions, there were consequences. The consequences were many times swift and severe. The individual was accountable for there actions. Now we begin the whimpification our children at a young age by eliminating winning or loosing, protecting them from consequences, or bailing them out. We do not want to make the children feel bad. What a bunch of CRAP. If you really want them individual to make proper decisions, make them accountable and administer the consequences. This is one stimulus package our society needs.
