I find it frustrating that my position on "abstinence-only" education is constantly misrepresented and the Butler Eagle abets that viewpoint as evidenced by the fact that the editors combined two distinct letters I wrote into one, allowing John Schirra the opportunity for the further convolution of my message by misapplying my position on the drug laws to sexual education. Mr. Schirra , clinging to Puritanical beliefs in the face of mountains of evidence against the effectiveness of "abstinence-only education", asks why I believe it is "unworkable" but does not realize that I have never said that abstinence should not be taught. My position is that abstinence should not be the sole component of sexual education and should not be coupled with outright falsehoods regarding contraceptives. Mr. Schirra talks of "self-respect" while he advocates a program that is pure propaganda and designed only for indoctrination, not education--a sure sign of lack of respect for the students subjected to this mental assault.
