To answer Laurie from Butler, who questions my advocacy for legalizing drugs: The principle behind my position is that I believe that the government should not prevent people from doing what they wish to their own bodies, even if people choose to harm themselves by using illicit substances. Moreover, the "War on Drugs" has not diminished drug use, but has fostered the development of organized crime, gang warfare and the spread of disease. The government's job is not to save people from themselves. By taking on this task it has immeasurably worsened the situation. Looking at European countries who have decriminalized drugs one will find less overdose deaths, lower violent crime rates, and lower disease rates amongst injection drug users.
