Butler Technologies in Butler plans to expand its operation by adding an office building next to its existing structure at 231 W. Wayne St.

City council on Thursday approved the conditional use of the property for Nine O Nine Group, architects for the project, to construct a 40-by-80-foot pre-engineered metal building on the site near the corner of West Wayne and South Washington streets.

Nadine Tripodi, owner and executive vice president of the company, which provides custom user-interface products and printing services, said the project has no timeline.

“It’s just in preparation for when we are ready and able to do it,” she said.

“We’re bursting at the seams right now. I’m not sure exactly when we are talking about breaking ground, but I want to be ready.”

Butler Technologies has been there for 16 years, expanding twice during that time to accommodate a workforce that has grown to 55 employees.

The city zoning and hearing board approved the project in November.

“Our office has no issues with it and believes it would be a great addition to our area,” said John Evans, city code enforcement officer.

He said that the Nine O Nine group in the past has bought and repaired or demolished blighted properties in the city.

“We have taken down a couple of houses that would certainly be considered blighted situations,” Tripodi said.

Those houses were mostly along Liberty Avenue, which runs behind Butler Technologies. The backyards of homes on that street would face the new building.
