Severe thunderstorms possible Saturday

The National Weather Service’s Pittsburgh office has issued a hazardous weather outlook due to possible severe thunderstorms in Butler County on Saturday, June 6.

According to the outlook, there is a slight risk of severe weather due to the thunderstorms, which could arrive between 2 and 6 p.m.

NWS Pittsburgh meteorologist Chris Leonardi said the primary severe weather threat is damaging winds. However, Leonardi also said the NWS cannot rule out heavy rain, hail or even a tornado.

Leonardi advised residents to go inside whenever they hear thunder. He also said if the NWS does issue a weather warning, residents should ensure they are in an especially strong building and are on a lower floor in an area without windows.

In addition, residents should not use devices connected to power outlets and running water during the thunderstorms according to the American Red Cross.

Drivers should avoid standing water and flooded roads.
