SRU art banners displayed
Twenty outdoor fall banners were recently put up on Slippery Rock University campus, highlighting the creativity of students.
Students designed the fiber banners in “Advanced Fiber Art Class” taught by Barbara Westman, assistant professor of art.
The hand-painted and individually-stitched banners display a variety of themes, including Slovak art and Native-American symbolism.
A banner titled “Dream Catcher” was created by Rachel Mortimer, a music education major.
With a hoop and weave pattern, Mortimer said her banner represents the Native-American tradition of good dreams chasing away bad dreams.
SRU facilities staff installed the banners, stringing them atop lampposts positioned between North Hall and Bailey Library. They will be in place for two months.
