United Steelworkers OK 4-year contractPITTSBURGH — The United Steelworkers union has voted roughly 5-to-1 to approve a four-year contract with Allegheny Technologies after 2,200 workers were locked out more than six months ago.About 90 percent of the union workers affected cast votes Tuesday. The last contract expired June 30, and ATI locked out the workers at 12 plants in Pennsylvania and five other states Aug. 15. About 1,500 of those locked out work at six plants in the Pittsburgh suburbs. The company is based in Pittsburgh. The National Labor Relations Board must approve the deal because it had filed unfair labor practice allegations against the company during the lockout. Union officials didn’t expect that to scuttle the deal.
Drivers expected to save at the pumpDALLAS — Gasoline prices have started their annual springtime migration higher, but motorists should still save money at the pump in 2016.The national average price for a gallon of regular has risen for eight straight days — the first time that has happened since last May — to about $1.79 on Wednesday. But that’s still 54 cents cheaper than at this time last year.Forecasters say prices should rise at least 30 cents by June. Demand will rise as people drive more, and supplies will tighten when refiners slow down to perform maintenance and switch to more expensive summer fuel blends.
