Doug Vogel demonstrates how to use the fuel-pumping system for Vogel Disposal’s new compressed natural gas trucks in Mars. The company added 10 “green” trucks to their fleet, and Vogel said each truck cost about $330,000 and has a 7 to 10 year life expectancy.

Vogel Disposal Service Inc. was awarded a $300,000 state grant toward the purchase of 15 Class 8 compressed natural gas-powered waste collection vehicles.

The grant is one of eight totaling $1.44 million awarded by the state Department of Environmental Protection through its Alternative Fuel Incentive Grant Program.

The program is designed to help businesses and utilities cut costs and improve air quality through the purchase of alternative fuel vehicles. The eight grants will result in the deployment of 25 alternative fuel vehicles and four new fueling stations across the state.
