Slow Down Campaign returns to Cranberry Township neighborhoods starting June 5
Cranberry Township’s biannual Slow Down Campaign is slated from June 5 to 19, around the same time Seneca Valley School District’s academic year concludes.
The campaign is meant to keep pedestrians, motorists and cyclists — among others — safe on streets, particularly in residential areas.
This year, radar speed signs and hundreds of yard signs will be placed in 32 participating neighborhoods. Police will increase their presence during this time frame.
The data gathered from radar signs is used to raise awareness about the campaign.
Through these measures, drivers are incentivized to adhere more strictly to speed limits in neighborhoods, as well as the township at large.
Past data has shown the campaign reduces speed on average, according to 2021 campaign guidelines.
Inspired by the national “Keep Kids Alive Drive 25” program, the initiative is a collaborative effort between the township’s government, police department and homeowners’ associations.
Each new member gets a free permanent post-mounted “Keep Kids Alive” sign at the entrance to their neighborhood.
The program is funded through local business support and the township’s community chest.
A fall campaign is scheduled from Aug. 20 to Sept. 3.
