SRU Tests

Testing for Slippery Rock University’s students in the spring semester will involve two phases:

Phase 1This phases involves the universal testing of all non-symptomatic residential students and student athletes.Students required to participate will be contacted by Residence Life staff or their coaching staffs with instructions.Testing will begin in early-February at an on-site testing center in the University Union, 103 Central Loop.Students will self-administer the test by inserting a nasal swab just inside each nostril and place the swab in a vial. The test does not involve a long, invasive nasopharyngeal swab.Students will receive their results within two or three days.

Phase 2This phase includes retesting students from the first phase and available testing for the rest of the student body.Returning students will be able to retest biweekly during the semester, regardless of whether they live on or off campus.Student athletes will continue to retest weekly per NCAA guidelines.Instructions will be emailed to students once the second phase begins, which university officials estimated to be about mid-February.Students will be provided with directions to download a mobile app to their smart phones, on which they can schedule their appointment at the testing center. This phase will involve a saliva-based test, described by its producer, the University of Illinois, to place “a small amount of saliva into a sterile test tube.”Results will be available through the mobile app in about two to three days.
