PennDOT mechanic hurt in Butler Township crash

A mechanic for PennDOT was injured in a one-vehicle crash as he was traveling north on Route 8 Friday afternoon.

A 70-year-old Pennsylvania Department of Transportation mechanic was hospitalized with possible injuries Friday following an accident in his truck in Butler Township.

Witnesses told state police the truck was driving north in the right lane of Route 8 just after noon when it hit a curb.

State Police Trooper Tyler Dubovi said the driver was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with possible neck and back injuries, and was to be kept overnight.

He said the truck traveled about 300 feet along the road before coming to rest in front of Northwest Bank. The truck struck a Butler Transit Authority sign and reflective post after it hit the curb. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

PennDOT crews assisted at the scene, he said. Township police, fire fighters and Butler ambulance also responded.
