Low voter turnout reported at Butler County primary Tuesday
With a turnout of just under 21% in the Tuesday primary, Butler County voters cast 29,799 ballots, showing an increased use of mail-in and absentee ballots.
Out of 143,171 registered voters, consisting of 82,884 Republicans and 39,038 Democrats, 20.81% turned out for the primary.
Voters cast 19,414 ballots at the polls and 10,385 ballots, or 34.8% of votes, through absentee or mail-in voting
Of the 17,503 Republican ballots, 13,791 were cast at the polls and 3,712 were absentee or mail-in ballots. Republican voter turnout was 21.12%.
Democratic voters cast 12,296 ballots, including 5,623 at the polls and 6,673 through the mail. Democratic voter turnout was 31.5%.
Turnout for the 2025 primary was similar at 29,821. On that occasion, there were 20,536 cast on election day and 9,238 cast through absentee or mail-in voting.
Of the 61,658 ballots cast in the 2025 general election, 47,232 came on Election Day and 14,251 were absentee or mail-in ballots.
