Church celebrates Young Child Week

Transportation is theme of event

BUTLER TWP — Transportation will be the theme at the Week of the Young Child celebration scheduled for April 18 at the North Main Street Church of God.

The activities for children from birth through grade school run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.

Each child who attends will receive a copy of the book “The Bus for Us” by Suzanne Bloom. Written for children ages 3 to 6, the book is the state’s One Book, Every Young Child 2013 selection.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., children can “Gear up” for school readiness by learning through play. In addition, children and parents can learn about school bus safety from the Valley Lines bus company of Butler.

At 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., Peter Bess, Butler Public Library children’s librarian, will read “The Bus for Us” to children.

At 7 p.m., the Carnegie Science Center of Pittsburgh’s show, “Start Your Engines,” will transport children across land, through the air and into space. Children will see how a steam engine works and learn about combustion.

Activities were coordinated by the Butler County Early Care & Education Council, which is coordinated by Lifesteps in Butler.

For information, contact Julie Thumma at 724-283-1010, Ext. 310.

CoventryCares, a health insurance provider, is the lead sponsor for the day.
