Fundraisers raise thousands for families of fatal crash victims in Summit Township
The sister of a 19-year-old girl killed in a Saturday, May 16, crash in Summit Township faces a long road to recovery, according to a GoFundMe.
Nevaeh Schweinsberg, of Butler, was one of two people killed when a Honda Accord left the road, overturned and struck a tree, according to state police. The crash occurred around 10 p.m. on Freeport Road near Headland Road.
“Nevaeh was an amazing spirit with a huge heart, full of love and intelligence, and her loss leaves a space that can never be filled,” wrote Nicole Atkinson, a friend of the family who organized the fundraiser on behalf of the girl’s mother, Alysha Zurzolo.
The other killed was the driver, Skyler Gray, 22, of Cadogan.
“His sudden passing in a tragic car accident on May 17, 2026, has left his family and friends heartbroken and unprepared for the challenges ahead,” wrote Mandy Trautman in a separate GoFundMe organized for Gray’s family.
Police said a 17-year-old girl in the back seat of the vehicle was ejected during the crash and sustained serious injuries. Police said the single-vehicle crash involved driving under the influence.
Maliyah Schweinsberg, Nevaeh’s sister, is recovering at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with several surgeries ahead of her, according to the GoFundMe.
The GoFundMe for the girls has raised $1,205 in its first 11 hours as of Monday morning, and the other had raised $2,639 in its first 18 hours.
