SV comes close in loss to Central

Bunofsky shines in 28-20 defeat

Jake Bunofsky caught five passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, but the Seneca Valley football team couldn’t hold on to a 14-7 lead on the road against Central Catholic in a 28-20 loss Friday night at Highmark Stadium.

Raiders’ quarterback Gabe Lawson threw for 196 yards.

Central Catholic scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to pull ahead 21-14.

The Vikings (4-1, 3-0) added another score in the fourth quarter to lead 28-14 before Noah Mancuso drew Seneca Valley (2-2, 1-2) to within a score with a 20-yard touchdown run.

Mancuso finished with 65 yards on 16 carries.

Grove City 47, Oil City 12 — Tyler Greer rushed for 141 yards on just three carries and scored a pair of touchdowns and Trey Adams scored three times and rushed for 85 yards as the Eagles rolled.

Grove City rushed for 280 yards as a team.

The Eagles led 34-0 at the half and 47-0 after three quarters.

Brady Callahan threw for 93 yards and a 22-yard scoring hookup to Qadir Muhammad for Grove City.

Sharon 24, Slippery Rock 7 — The Rockets held the Tigers to just 112 yards, but fell at home.

Lane Voytik passed for two touchdowns for Sharon (3-2).

Jake Shaffer scored the lone Rockets touchdown that made it 14-7 in the third quarter.

Slippery Rock (2-3) had 222 yards of offense.

Union/A-C Valley 23, St. Marys 20 — Jeff Ginn booted a 32-yard field goal with 1:40 left in the game to lift the Falcon Knights (1-4) to their first win of the season.

Running back Greg Duncan caught three touchdown passes in the game — two from Lucas Bowser and a 65-yard strike from Ginn on a halfback pass early in the first quarter.

St. Marys led 20-6 in the second quarter, but the Dutch were shut out the rest of the game, which was played in Foxburg.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 31, New Brighton 28 — The Trojans rallied from a 28-7 deficit to win a Midwestern Conference clash.

Golf

Troy Loughry shot a 79 to lead Grove City at the Bill Mook Memorial Golf Tournament at Wanango Golf Course Friday.

Grove City shot a 344 as a team. Daniel Lucas fired an 85 for the Eagles.

Warren won the team title with a 310. Franklin was second and Meadville third.

Chad Green and Ryan Dorrier were Slippery Rock’s top golfers.

Cross Country

Moniteau’s boys and girls both fell to Cranberry on Thursday.

Jacob Burgoon paced the boys with a time of 21:58 in a 15-48 loss to the Berries.

In the girls’ meet, Madison Cumberland finished in 26:35 in a 15-49 setback.
