SRU hoops split

The Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team erased a 17-point deficit with 13 minutes remaining to forge a 55-all tie with 6:45 to play, but it was Mercyhurst College that came away with a 64-62 victory in PSAC-West action Saturday.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak by The Rock (9-5, 6-4).

Jon Valeriano scored a team-high 16 points while Tabari Perry added 11 points, Luiz Santos 10 points and 10 rebounds and Devin Taylor 12 rebounds, all for SRU.

Women’s BasketballSRU (5-9, 2-8) shot a season-high 54.3 percent from the floor en route to a 75-67 victory over Mercyhurst College Saturday in a PSAC-West contest.Paris Thomas contributed team-highs of 16 points, eight assists and six steals. Sherita Stanley added 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals and D’Asia Chambers 13 points.Erinne Cunningham drained four 3-pointers for 12 points, also for the Rock.
