Butler native Robert Zanicky lauded for 25 years as pastor
WILKES-BARRE — The Rev. Robert Zanicky, a Butler native, was recently honored by his congregation at First Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre on his 25th anniversary as their pastor.
Two hundred congregants, friends from numerous religions and clergy representing the Jewish, Catholic, Islamic and Protestant faiths gathered at the Wilkes-Barre Genetti Hotel and Conference Center.
Among those seated at the head table, in addition to Zanicky, was his wife, Shawn, also a Presbyterian minister; Rabbi Larry Kaplan of Temple Israel; Monsignor Vicent Grimalia; and the Rev. Frank Deming of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Rehoboth Beach.
Zanicky graduated in 1970 from Butler Senior High School, Grove City College, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and Princeton Theological Seminary.
In addition to serving First Presbyterian Church, Zanicky teaches part-time at Misericordia University in the Religious Studies Department.
He is the son of Gladys Zanicky of Butler and the late Martin Zanicky.
He and his wife are the parents of three grown children.
