Butler indoor track sets record in debut

After losing its first two meets to weather cancellations, the Butler High School indoor track and field teams opened their season Saturday with a TSTCA meet at Edinboro University.

The Golden Tornado boys distance relay team set the school record time of 10 minutes, 57 seconds. Running that relay were Noah Beveridge, Brett Brady, Doug Kostelansky and Tim Porter.

Other Butler boys medaling in this 70-team event were Ryan Marcella in the 60 meters, 200 meters, 4x400 and 4x200 relays, Logan Paule in the triple jump, Isaiah Seybert in the triple jump and 4x200, Aden Dressler in the 3,000 meters, Jack Codispot in the pole vault, Jake Wolfrum and Cade Gratzmiller in the 4x400 and 4x200, Vance Jackson in the 4x400.

Butler’s girls won a pair of relay events. Erin LeMay, Maggie Welty, Mariah Geibel and Liz Simms won the 4x800 in 10:10.48 while Maddie Tonini, Gabrielle Boden, Chesna Tomko and Simms won the 4x400 in 4:11.97.

Jena Reimer took second in the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, bettering the state championship standard. Simms placed second in the 800 meters.

Numerous other Tornado girls placed at the meet. They include the following:

4x200 relay: 2-Gabrielle Boden, Kenna Jackson, Chesna Tomko and Maddie Tonini 1:52.49; 3-Tabby Wilbert, Maegan Emanuel, Heidi Bednarz and Anna Baxter 1:54.95

4x800 relay: 4-Erin Gianneski, Emma LeMay, Megan McClymonds and Autumn Pettinato 11:18.58

Distance medley: 3-Erin LeMay, Maegan Emanuel, Maggie Welty, Chelsey Kabel 13:59.79

200 meters: 6-Gabrielle Boden 27.45

400 meters: 4-Maddie Tonini 62.07, 6-Chesna Tomko 62.48

800 meters: 2-Liz Simms 2:21.93

1,600 meters: 4-Maggie Welty 5:40.12

3,000 meters: 7-Chelsey Kabel 11:32.58

Long jump: 7-Mackenzi Popovich 15-7.75

Triple jump: 7-Elena DiPippa 32-7.50, 8-Mackenzi Popovich 32-4

Shot put: 2-Jena Reinheimer 40-0.

Slippery Rock competed in an indoor meet at Kent State University over the weekend. Kayla Latoza took second in the triple jump with a leap of 31 feet, 0.5 inch.

Claudia Allen was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.18 seconds and Ana Ng was fourth in the triple jump with a 29-11.

Boys Basketball

Robby Carmody scored 32 points Saturday as Mars cruised past Montour, 83-51, to stay unbeaten in section play.

Mars led 40-14 at halftime. Cade Hetzler added 19 points for the Planets (11-2, 6-0), who travel to Allderdice Monday.

Seton-La Salle 54, CW North Catholic 38 — John Fukon scored 12 points while Jackson Paschall added 10 for the Trojans (6-8, 3-2) in this road loss.

Jakob Richardson paced Seton-La Salle with 19 points.

Girls Basketball

McKenna Gross scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Seneca Valley (7-6, 2-3) earned a 54-45 non-section win over Penn-Trafford.

The score was even at 37 after three quarters.

Gretchen Koken added 12 points and five rebounds, Haley Cramer eight points and 10 boards for the Raiders. Bella Long scored 23 cfor Penn-Trafford.

Private Schools

Derek Butterworth scored 18 points and had seven assists as the First Baptist Christian boys basketball team defeated Redeemer Lutheran 52-49.

Nate Errington added 13 points, Aaron Drake nine points and seven assists, Ryan Creaturo 13 rebounds.

In girls action, FBC defeated Redeemer Lutheran 55-15 as Michaella Roth had 25 points, six steals and six assists. Alexis Barnhart added 10 points and 11 rebounds, Piper Mueller eight points, Nicole Hartman six points and 10 rebounds.
