Rock women claim PSAC crown
Lucy Hannon scored two goals and assisted on another as the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title with a 3-0 win over California (Pa.) University Sunday afternoon.
The win gives The Rock (13-5-2) an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament, which will begin this weekend. SRU will find out its seed and opponent tonight.
The conference championship is the third for The Rock and first since 2005.
Hannon was named the tournament MVP.
Shelby Ward scored the other goal for SRU.
Dana O'Neill earned her ninth shutout of the season and made five saves.
The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Mercyhurst University in the PSAC championship match.The Rock (11-4-6) still has a shot at earning a berth into the NCAA tournament. Brackets will be announced tonight.
Mars graduate and Grove City College senior Shane Kaclik became the third running back in Grove City College football history to eclipse 1,000 yards as the Wolverines toppled St. Vincent College 27-10 Saturday afternoon.Kaclik rushed for 109 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.Kaclik, who has 1,028 yards this season, joins Doug Steiner and R.J. Bowers in the elite 1,000-yard season group at the school.
