Stamm wins duel in BCAL action
Meridian’s Robert Stamm won a stellar pitching duel Tuesday night in Butler County American Legion baseball play at Pullman Park.
Stamm tossed a two-hitter and struck out seven in Meridian’s season-opening 2-1 victory over Butler City.
Butler City’s Josh Friel permitted only one hit and struck out 18 in a losing cause. Butler City took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth as D.J. Perez walked, stole second and scored on a Friel single.
Meridian answered in the bottom of the inning as Matt Dowdy walked, stole second, advanced to third and scored on a pair of passed balls.
The winning run crossed the plate in the seventh. Jake Koerner hit a one-out double and pinch-runner Vinny Lowerre stole third and scored on an errant throw.
