Charleston tops SRU women

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Slippery Rock University had four players in double figures, but dropped a 93-76 women’s basketball decision at the University of Charleston Saturday night.

SRU (1-2) led 54-48 with 13 minutes left before an 11-0 run gave Charleston a lead it never lost. The Eagles were playing their season opener.

D’Asia Chambers paced The Rock with 20 points and nine rebounds. Alexas Brown contributed 16 points, eight assists and six steals. Danielle Garroutte had 12 points off the bench and Erinne Cunningham had 10 points.

LeAnne Ross scored 20 points for Charleston.

The Rock will open PSAC play Dec. 1 and 2 with crossover games at Bloomsburg and Mansfield, respectively. The team does not return home until Dec. 18-19, facing West Chester and Cheyney at Morrow Field House.
